MXA-5000: a new Automatic Identification System (AIS). AIS is used by ships and Vessel Traffic Services for identification and locating vessels.

Icom is proud to introduce the new MXA-5000: a new Automatic Identification System (AIS). AIS is used by ships and Vessel Traffic Services for identification and locating vessels. AIS provides an easy means for vessels to electronically exchange ship’s data for vessel tracking and aids in collision avoidance. Information that is exchanged includes: identification, position, course, and speed, with other nearby vessels and VTS stations. Icom’s “Class B Receiver” MXA-5000 takes this real-time information and displays it on a computer, radar or a chart plotter for easy navigation and collision avoidance at a glance.

Icom’s MXA-5000 Features:

• Outputs AIS data using the NMEA 0183 format for easy connectivity to most radars, chart plotters, and navigation systems.
• The MXA-5000 receives both Class A and Class B signals simultaneously.
• Its full duplex receiver allows for easy and efficient handling of the information without missing critical data.
• The MXA-5000 has a built in antenna splitter. If you already have a radio antenna installed, there’s no need for adding additional antennas, or to buy expensive aftermarket splitters. The MXA-5000 splits the input signal for RX and protects itself when the radio transmits.
• Overlay of AIS information on multifunction displays, chart plotters, or radars.
• GPS data input port for multiplexing GPS and AIS Data.
• AIS tracking increases your navigational awareness in any weather condition including dense fog, darkness, and heavy trafficked waterways.
• The common retail price of the MXA-5000 is expected to be approximately $500.
• The MXA-5000’s connections are clearly marked and easy to access.
